Cast of "Perspective"
Calling this the cast of "Perspective" has the order of creation somewhat backwards. I've been working with, and working on, these characters and their story for over a decade, and "Perspective" was the first project presenting a piece of their story.
Their context is as follows:
Existence is far broader than the world we know. We add whole worlds to what exists with every story we tell each other, whether it's as fleshed-out as a TV series with six seasons and a movie, or as simple as lying about what you did last Tuesday. Unfortunately, sometimes our stories are inconsistent with themselves. When the logic of a story breaks down, so does the world it created- and everyone living in it.
Enter STACE and its users. STACE is both a staging area for the users, and the name of the supercomputer running that staging area. The users, twenty in all, are tasked with realigning worlds to fit their stories. While the protagonists run around at the whim of the plot, they act in the background to set up the contrived details that lead to the heroes' success or failure, as the story demands.
Got a magic sword that, by all means, the evil sorcerer should have been able to track down? Not if a STACE user hand-delivered it to where the brave knight finds it. Did that head injury on a perfectly normal human heal way too fast? A little carefully-placed time manipulation from a STACE user, and it's not a problem. Was the clothes iron turned left in one shot and turned right in the next? You get the idea.
And of course, in the meantime, you have all the shifting social dynamics that come with any small task force with a single purpose. Inside jokes, friendships made and broken, ethical questions, wide character arcs, ridiculous but fun questions leading to equally ludicrous outcomes. Let's have fun with this, shall we?
